1,000 high schools have science laboratories: Mujtaba

Lahore—Punjab Education Minister Mian Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman told the Punjab Assembly on Friday that of 4,286 high schools, 1,000 had science laboratories while a sum of Rs 1 billion was made to run these laboratories in the budget 2010-11.

Answering questions by members during question hour session, he said no allocation was made for developing science laboratories during the current fiscal 2011-12. This year, he said, an handsome amount had already been fixed for Model Schools where science laboratories would have IT labs too. He said the government was promoting computer education among the students.

To a question, the minister said the government would provide computers and laptop to talented students the next year.

He said to monitor fee structure of private institutes and to keep them at minimum level, the chief minister had constituted a committee. The committee, he said, would forward its recommendations to the authority concerned.

Speaker Rana Mohammed Iqbal reacted sharply when the minister could not answer questions by members.—APP
