Punjab govt to promote bio-gas technology

RAWALPINDI - order to mitigate the energy crisis and adopting alternate resources for energy, the Punjab government has started taking steps to promote bio-gas technology scheme in the province. 
On the instructions of Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, under this scheme, financial assistance of Rs. 50,000 would be provided to 10 applicants in each who will be interested in getting constructed and installed bio-gas plant in the rural areas where Sui gas facility is not available. In Rawalpindi, balloting was held in the office of District Officer Coordination (DOC) Rawalpindi to announce ten successful applicants for bio-gas plants in the presence of the applicants and members of the balloting committee. Secretary Agriculture Punjab Arif Nadeem constituted a five member 
committee in each district of the province headed by concerned DCO and District Information Officer, Agriculture Engineer, District Officer (Livestock) and Assistant Agriculture Engineer (field) as its members for the purpose of transparent balloting in the presence of applicants for bio-gas plants

Punjab govt utilised Rs 50 bn in half year

LAHORE: Punjab government has utilised Rs 50 billion in the first half of the fiscal year 2011-12 out of total released Rs 125 billion.

A spokesman for the Punjab government on Friday said that the financial condition of the province was sound during first half of financial year. He said the government did not receive any new loan from State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) during last two years. The older loan is being repaid according to agreement signed with the SBP. Further, the government has been opening each month with a surplus. January 2012 was opened with a surplus of Rs 8.0 billion, he added. The spokesman said that due to structural mismatch between federal receipts (which are 80 per cent of the total receipts of the provincial government) and provincial expenditure, the government had allowed a uniform and formula based overdraft limits to all provinces.

The receivable amount from the federal government was between Rs 25 billion and 30 billion. If these funds are received lump sum and future receipts of NFC Award from the federal government are received in time, there may not even be any requirement to access the overdraft. He said the federal government had borrowed an amount of Rs 826.0 billion during the current financial year from SBP and commercial banks.

FACEBOOK TIMELINE

New York: Social media giant Facebook has unveiled 60 new ‘timeline’ apps that post updates in real time about what people are doing, and also add updates to people’s Timeline.

“You can now enhance your timeline with apps that help you tell your story, whether you love to cook, eat, travel, run, or review movies,” said Carl Sjogreen, Facebook’s director of platform, in a blog.

“Soon, there will be apps for all types of interests, as more apps will launch over time. Whether you love snowboarding, gardening, hiking, or knitting, or something else, there will be an app for you.”

The handful of companies present at the rollout event in San Francisco pitched their apps as a way to allow users to more fully integrate their social experiences outside of Facebook into their social networking profile.

Someone reading an e-book from Kobo, for example, could highlight passages they want to share with Facebook friends. The app also will automatically track which books they have finished or started reading and connect them with other Facebook users reading the same books.

Users can then choose to delete the action from Facebook if, for example, they would rather not share their love of Twilight vampire movies.

The app provides “another level of engagement” for Rotten Tomatoes users, Estrada said. “It’s pretty exciting.”

Over time, the apps will track almost any aspect of life users prefer from cappuccinos to world travels and catalogue them into the Facebook “Timeline,” a new feature that essentially turns a personal profile into a virtual scrapbook.

With Timeline, Facebook users can easily scroll through years of events to see where a friend spent spring break in 2005, for example, or if they ever uploaded photos from a study-abroad semester in Paris.

Competition Details and Submission Guidelines:
Youth Parliament of Pakistan, with the support of United Nations Democracy Fund and in partnership with Ministry of Human Rights, Government of Pakistan has undertaken a project titled “Youth Action for Democracy -Strengthening Democracy by Empowering Youth” in eighteen selected districts of Pakistan. The basic purpose of this project is to promote and develop democratic values in the youth of Pakistan and to develop a future cadre of young leaders for the promotion of democratic citizenship in Pakistan.
An important component of this project is to collect views/perceptions/opinions of the youth of Pakistan. Therefore young citizens of Pakistan are invited to take part in the National Democracy Essay Competition. 

We invite youth from all over Pakistan to send in their entries in accordance with the following guidelines;
• Entrants should be legal citizens of Pakistan and between 18-35 years of age;
• The word limit for the essay is 2000-3000 words;
• Essay should cover at least three of the following themes:

An independent jury will shortlist the applications and the finalists will be announced in the last week of March 2012 on our website for web polling. The public will then be given time till 10th April 2012 to cast their votes and choose the best entry. The final winners will be announced on 16th April 2012. 

Awards:
The top three finalists will be awarded the following prizes: 
The 1st prize is a “Fully paid participation of the winner in an International Conference.”
The 2nd prize is a cash prize of Rs. 20,000.
